Preparing for your Appointment

To ensure a successful notarization process, it’s important to prepare the necessary documents and identification beforehand. Below are some steps you can take to prepare for your notarization.

Presence

The principal signer must be physically present during the appointment; no exceptions. If accommodations are needed or any hardships arise, please contact me. Additionally, if witnesses are required for the document, ensure their presence alongside the principal signer.

Identification

Please bring a valid, unexpired photo identification such as:

  • State-issued driver's license

  • State-issued non-driver identification card

  • Passport

  • Military ID

  • Immigration or green card issued by the United States.

Document

Ensure the document(s) is complete but unsigned. Verify all pages are present and free of blank spaces.

Witness

If you don't possess a valid form of identification, arrange for two credible witnesses who know you but are not involved in the transaction. Each witness must present valid photo identification and verify your identity. For documents needing witness signatures, ensure a neutral witness or witnesses are present.

Payment

Accepted payment methods include cash, check, electronic payments (Zelle, Venmo, or Paypal), and credit cards via Square. Please have your chosen form of payment ready during our appointment. Final payment details will be discussed at the time of the appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my identification is expired?

If your identification is expired, it can still be considered valid for notarization if it was issued within the last 5 years.

What are my payment options?

I accept cash as well as *electronic payments. For electronic payments, I use Square to accept all major credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, Discover, American Express) that have a magstripe or through contactless pay. I can also take payment via Zelle, Venmo and Paypal. *A convenience fee will be applied at checkout.

Do all parties need to be present at the time of notarization?

Yes, all parties must be physically present for notarization, without exception. If you have an authorized representative who will be signing on your behalf, they must also be physically present. If either the principal signer or their representative is not physically present, I am not authorized to perform the notarization.

What if I'm disabled?

I am committed to making my notary services accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. If you need any accommodations during the notarization process due to a disability, please inform me in advance, so that I can make arrangements to meet your needs in a comfortable and convenient manner for you.

If a document has already been signed, can you still notarize it?

It's good practice to not sign or date any document requiring notarization until the appointment. If the document requires an oath or affirmation (jurat), you cannot sign it ahead of time. If you sign a jurat prior to our appointment, you will need to sign a fresh copy of your document(s) in my presence.

Can you notarize in languages other than English

It is essential that I communicate directly with the signer in a common language to ensure they understand the document being signed. If the document is in a language other than English, I will not notarize the document unless the signer is able to provide a satisfactory translation or explanation of the document's contents in English. If a language barrier exists, it can bring into question the impartiality of the notarization process. For this reason, I can't allow translators to be present during the appointment. This ensures that the signer fully understands the document they are signing, and that the notarization is legally valid.

How long does a notarization take?

The length of a notarization can vary depending on the type of document and the number of signers. Generally, a document with one signer may take just a few minutes to notarize, while more complex documents or multiple signers can take longer. I strive to complete notarizations as efficiently as possible while still ensuring accuracy and compliance with all necessary requirements. If you have a specific time frame in mind, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate your needs.
